I’ve always been a fan of VOLVO, but have usually dealt with VW and Audi. I have a chance to get a 2006 XC-90 with 233xxx miles on it for well under 1,000. Currently it has a misfire on cylinder 2 and the owner states it “idles weird” and needs brakes. Based on experience it’s probably just plugs, coils, or MAF.

Should I pull the trigger or pass?

Thanks in advance.

Total gamble. If you like diy, try. If you hate diy, pass

I agree its a big gamble. Worst case if you can't get it to run, you can always donate for a tax write-off.

Find a good indy mechanic if you can't DIY and let them repair it for you. It sounds like it just needs a little TLC and she would be good to go. I would make the purchase.

Buy one that isn't broken. If it were such and easy or cheap fix then why hasn't the owner already don it?

Because the previous owner just wants to off it. Yes it is risky but the problems he says he is having seem minor. I would just go ahead and do the repairs.
