The new 2016 Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine Momentum plug-in hybrid SUV will start at $69,095, including a $995 destination charge, when it arrives at Volvo dealerships in the U.S. this summer, Volvo Cars of North America said in a statement.
The midlevel XC90 T8 R-Design starts at $70,995, including shipping.
The top-of-the-line XC90 T8 Inscription starts at $72,595, including shipping.
Pricing does not include a federal tax credit of up to an estimated $4,600 or other state and local incentives.
The base XC90 T8 features "Thor's Hammer" LED headlights, power front-seat cushion extensions and an Orrefors crystal gear-shift lever.
The XC90 T8 R-Design features a piano-black grille, R-Design lower front spoiler, dual tailpipes and a perforated leather gear-shift lever and steering wheel.
Luxury amenities abound in the XC90 T8 Inscription, which features Nappa leather seats and a unique silver matte front grille.
Volvo is calling the SUV the "world's first seven-passenger plug-in hybrid electric vehicle."
It is equipped with a 2.0-liter supercharged and turbocharged Drive-E four-cylinder engine and a rear axle electric motor. It delivers 394 horsepower and hits zero-60 mph in 5.7 seconds, according to Volvo.
The Volvo plug-in hybrid has an estimated electric range of 17 miles. The EPA has not released official fuel economy numbers on the XC90 T8 Twin Engine.
The 2015 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid is the key rival to the XC90 Twin 8 Twin Engine. The Cayenne S E-Hybrid starts at $78,195, including a $995 destination charge.
Volvo also said that test drives of the 2016 Volvo XC90 T6 will be available shortly at Volvo dealerships.
