So I wanted a tow hitch on my XC90, they said it is hidden, and you cannot tell it is there, and the back will look the same with or without.

I get the car back and the bumper is cut close to the outside and cosmetically altered. Is this normal for this install?

Here is a pic, I am fine with the hole in the middle as that is where it pops out, but the right side of the bumper has a good half inch taken off, completely messes with the lines and look of the back. I surely would not have gotten this if they told me that they had to gut the bumper.

Thanks for the help!

How did you resolve this? Did you either contact the service manager or the dealership general manager? I do not have an XC90 (yet), but on other SUV forums, I’ve seen similar concerns. Many hitch kits from the manufacturer come with templates for cutting to preclude such a thing; I don’t know if the Volvo kit included such a template. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a nicer job from a Volvo dealer than from a U-Haul hitch installer.
