Volvo is launching a sportier, more aggressive-looking R-Design version of its flagship SUV.

The car gets a host of external upgrades, including 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, tinted rear windows, a black mesh front grille and contrasting chrome-effect door mirror casings. Inside, the seats are finished in black leather, there's a perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel plus column-mounted paddle shifts for the transmission. The standard pedals have been replaced by sports pedals and there's a special black headliner and improved interior lighting. Drivers can also adjust air suspension steering force feedback and transmission response at the touch of a button for a sportier or more comfortable ride.

Nick Connor, Managing Director of Volvo Car UK, said: "The launch of the XC90 R-Design makes our premium seven-seat SUV even more distinctive and dynamic than before. Its sportier looks certainly make it stand out on the road, and its extra equipment ensures that the interior is as luxurious as it is stunning."

The R-Design package can be specified in combination with any current Volvo XC90 engine -- diesel, gasoline or gasoline-hybrid.
